Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO, Shawn Layden Acknowledges Fortnite Controversy

it seems Sony has finally acknowledged the recent controversy regarding barred access for PlayStation 4 Fortnite players, who have tried using the same account on other consoles, specifically the Xbox One and the recently released Nintendo Switch version of the popular battle royale title.

Titles such as Rocket League, Minecraft and most recently, Fortnite have all featured crossplay between PC and consoles. Microsoft and Nintendo have especially shown a fondness for cross-console compatibility, between the likes of the Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch, even going as far as releasing a Minecraft spot that featured both respected machines.

Which is why it has been especially hard for PlayStation 4 Fortnite players who not only have been limited with a smaller pool of players to match up against, due to Sony not allowing cross-compatibility with other consoles, but going as far as to not allowing PlayStation users to migrate their PlayStation 4 accounts between platformers other than the PC, forcing users to create new accounts if they wish to play on the Xbox or Switch.

After several major news outlets picked up on the story, it seems Sony has finally acknowledged the issue past the fact the problem exists — with Shawn Layden, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, stating, “We’re hearing it. We’re looking at a lot of the possibilities. You can imagine that the circumstances around that affect a lot more than just one game. I’m confident we’ll get to a solution which will be understood and accepted by our gaming community, while at the same time supporting our business.”

The announcement was made during the Gamelab Conference in Spain, after Robert Purchese of Eurogamer grilled Layden, during the end of his talk with PlayStation 4 lead architect, Mark Cerny.
