COVID-19 Front-Line Workers Get Assist from Studio Gameforge

German game distributor and publisher Gameforge (Kingdom Under Fire 2, Runes of Magic, Tera) are helping out COVID-19 front-line health workers by supplying PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) tools for 3D-printed face shields.

Technology solution company FabLab Bruchsal partnered with Gameforge after both shifted their attention to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic. For health workers, it meant receiving high-quality protection from companies in sectors not limited to manufacturing.

FabLab was given a few 3D printers for their team of “self-proclaimed tinkerers” to bring their digital mask designs to life, producing over 700 shields for nearby medical centers.

“While the plastic shields are cut out by laser, other volunteers are using their personal 3D printers to make the requisite holding frames at home,” FabLab wrote in a statement. “Finally, all components are assembled at FanLab Bruchsal by a smaller team – to keep the risk of infection to a bare minimum.”

With Gameforge as a client, they join other gaming industry names such as Sony, CD Projekt and Humble Bundle in unique ways to help fight the spread of COVID-19.

FabLab also said the initiative is driven by what they called a “Makers vs Virus” movement. Multi-million dollar donations, direct hospital funding and even fundraising revenue through game sales are just some of the few methods driving the industry towards action while leading researchers work in finding a vaccine to COVID-19.
