Gamers eager to get more details on the newest entry in Rockstar’s acclaimed crime drama Grand Theft Auto will be able to view an deep dive on it, albeit in a somewhat weird place.
Announced via Twitter, and confirmed by Rockstar Games through email; Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will be coming to Netflix on August 27th, 2026 at 3PM (EST). The video will also be available on Rockstar Game’s official Youtube channel and the Grand Theft Auto website on the same day, but releasing at 9PM (EST). While no details have been provided for the extended look, one would imagine it will function similar to a Nintendo Direct.
The announcement has been met with some mixed reactions, ranging mostly from confusion to distain. Comments on the announcement video posted on Youtube range from, “A trailer for a trailer is crazy work Rockstar,” and “Imagine calling someone to tell them you’re gonna call them.” However, despite some flippancy, most gamers do seem excited to receive more information in this long-awaited sequel.
The road to Grand Theft Auto VI has been turbulent and interesting. Over 90 videos of initial test footage and builds were leaked on September 18th, 2022 prompting a flurry of mixed responses and internal panic from Rockstar Games. Another leak in December 2023 gave fans an early look at the game’s official trailer prompting Rockstar Games to release the official trailer a day ahead of its official launch.
However, despite these road bumps, Grand Theft Auto VI has remained on schedule and development was seemingly never affected. Players will finally be able to experience what the team has been building to for nearly a decade when it launches on November 19th, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
