Heroes of the Storm: Hanamura Returns With Game-changing Updates

It’s been a year of tinkering, and the payload mechanic has received some major updates.

Blizzard announced today that the Hanamura map in Heroes of the Storm will be back with an updated payload mechanic, new mercenary camps, gameplay updates, as well as a whole new name Hanamura Temple.

Back in August 2017, the Heroes of the Storm developers removed the Hanamura map from rotation to tinker around and fix some battleground issues.

The old Hanamura had two competing payloads located at the top and bottom of the map, where players would fight to escort their own payload to a point in order to deal damage to the impenetrable core. This map divided team attention, as players had to both try to escort their own payload while stopping the enemy payload at the same time.

Now, there is only one payload, and Heroes of the Storm players have to fight to escort it to their own point. One of the other major changes to the payload objective is that unlike before, it now no longer drifts backwards if left unattended.

Once escorted to its destination, the payload no longer prioritizes the enemy core initially. Instead, similar to the Blackheart’s Bay map, forts and keeps will be hit first. If a team successfully escorts the payload to its destination, then the next path for it will change to provide them with more of a challenge.

As for camps, the original turret ones are unchanged, while the Mega Enforcer and healing camps have been replaced with sentinel siege camps. Recon camps are another addition to the updated Heroes of the Storm map, and they function as watchtowers — only with more of a challenge if players want to capture them and gain vision.

It’s been a year of tinkering, but the new Hanamura Temple will available for players fairly soon.
