Apple unveiled their new M3-equipped MacBook Air laptops, releasing the initial features, price and general specs.
Apple users, scoot on up and listen. Today, Apple revealed their new M3-chipped MacBook Air models. They are now available to preorder in their respective 13-inch and 15-inch models and will be shipping out starting Friday, March 8th. These models are said to be a lot faster than their predecessors, with margins “up to 60 percent faster”, offering a plethora of upgrades.
Apple users sit up and take notice. Today, Apple unveiled its new M3-chipped MacBook Air models. They are now available for pre-order in their respective 13-inch and 15-inch models and will ship from Friday, March 8th. These models are said to be much faster than their predecessors, “up to 60 per cent faster”, and offer a host of upgrades.
Both devices come with a Liquid Retina display and up to 500 nits of brightness, along with support for up to two external displays when the laptops are closed. Getting work done while streaming your next Apple TV+ or Netflix binge on another screen has never been easier. Each model also includes an upgrade to Wi-Fi 6E, adding support for the 6GHz band and faster download speeds. The M3 MacBook Air models also come with MagSafe charging and two Thunderbolt ports. As per usual with the M2 MacBook Air Apple released in 2022, the M3 models include a Magic Keyboard with a full-height function row with Touch ID.
Most importantly, the M3 chip has an upgraded 16-core Neural Engine that Apple claims can “run optimized AI models,” as well as a built-in GPU that allows for mesh shading and ray tracing. Watch out NVIDIA! The new MacBook Air laptops also include a 1080p FaceTime camera, three microphones, and support for spatial audio and Dolby Atmos. Many users are always on the go and do not want to lug around a hefty laptop, so both devices are less than half an inch thick.
In terms of RAM, both base models come with 8GB RAM. Additionally, users can pay an extra $200 for 16GB and $400 for 24 GB. You can also upgrade the base 256GB of SSD storage to 512GB for $200, 1TB for $400, and 2TB for $800.
The 13-inch MacBooks are said to ship with a 30W USB-C power adapter, while most upgraded versions come with either a 35W dual-port charger or 70W adapter. For $20, you can upgrade the 256GB storage version to a 35W dual-port adapter or 70W adapter. Users who had the M2 MacBook Air in 2022 reported that making the upgrade for a more powerful option was worth it.
The new M3 MacBook Air laptops come in four colours, including starlight, space gray, and silver. There is also a midnight color that features an anodization seal that’s supposed to reduce fingerprints, always a good option to have to keep it clean. The 13-inch MacBook Air will cost $1,099, while the 15-inch model will cost $1,299. The number of improvements and upgrades on these new models offers great options for different users’ needs.
