Neuromancer, William Gibson's Epic Sci-Fi Novel Is Getting an Adaptation By Apple TV+

One of the earliest novels based in the cyberpunk genre, Neuromancer, William Gibson’s Nebula Award-winning novel, has been confirmed to receive a series adaptation at Apple TV+.

Apple TV+ has made the announcement today that they are ordering a series adaptation based on the cyberpunk world of William Gibson’s 1984 novel, Neuromancer, and it will land on the streaming service in a 10-episode series set to span the events of the genre-defining novel. Not much is yet known about the series adaptation (especially where casting is concerned), but seeing as Apple TV+ has been on a roll lately with their sci-fi genre offerings (Swan Song, Constellation), Neuromancer fits right in.

Neuromancer will be helmed by Showrunner Graham Roland and (the first episode) Directed by JD Dillard. Both Roland and Dillard have expressed their exuberance on the project by saying, “We’re incredibly excited to be bringing this iconic property to Apple TV+,” continuing with, “Since we became friends nearly 10 years ago, we’ve looked for something to team up on, so this collaboration marks a dream come true. ‘Neuromancer’ has inspired so much of the science fiction that’s come after it, and we’re looking forward to bringing television audiences into Gibson’s definitive ‘cyberpunk’ world.”

Neuromancer is the first part of a sci-fi novel “Sprawl” trilogy written by William Gibson, and published in 1984. The novel has been the recipient of many prestigious awards, including the Nebula Award, the Philip K. Dick Award, and the Hugo Award, and it is the first novel that has ever been published to win all three of these awards. The novel has gone on to inspire many famous sci-fi films such as The Matrix, and now it has finally inspired its live-action adaptation.

Aside from showrunners, everything else is held under wraps for the time being on the Skydance Television and Anonymous Content co-production. Fans can head to the official Apple TV+ press release for more information on the adaptation.
