In a move that’s set to shake up the desktop computing world, Intel has just launched its new Intel® Core 14th Generation desktop processor family. The line-up is led by the Intel Core i9-14900K, a beast of a processor that’s already making waves as the world’s fastest desktop processor, boasting speeds of up to 6 GHz right out of the box.

The 14th Generation family includes six new unlocked desktop processors, delivering up to 24 cores and 32 threads. This is a significant leap forward in processing power, and it’s clear that Intel is targeting the enthusiast market with these new offerings.

It has a boost clock of 6 GHz, up from 5.8 GHz on the Core i9-13900K. The new Core i7-14700K gets a bump to 20 cores and 28 threads, thanks to four additional efficiency cores versus its 13th-generation counterpart. This means creators can expect significant performance gains in their multi-threaded workloads, making this a dream processor for those involved in heavy-duty tasks like video editing, 3D rendering, and more.

According to Intel, the Core i9-14900K delivers up to 15% better multi-threaded performance in creative workloads compared to the 13900K. For gaming, Intel claims up to 13% higher frame rates in some titles versus the Ryzen 9 7950X3D. We are currently testing the chips for review, but due to delays in shipping, we have not done all the tests yet.

Beyond clock speed increases, Intel is touting features like better DDR5 memory overclocking and AI-assisted auto-overclocking. This feature brings one-click AI-guided overclocking to select unlocked Intel Core 14th Gen desktop processors, making it easier than ever for users to squeeze out every last bit of performance from their systems. While welcome additions for enthusiasts, these incremental gains won’t dramatically move the needle, although should help push the range farther than the box specs detail.

Intel’s 14th Gen processors are powered by the company’s advanced performance hybrid architecture. This means they’re designed to deliver the compute performance enthusiasts demand without compromising user workflow. This is particularly important in the gaming world, where the role of the CPU has never been more critical.

But it’s not just about the processors. Intel is also offering best-in-class connectivity with integrated support for Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth 5.3, as well as discrete support for new Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 wireless technologies. Plus, the new processors include support for Thunderbolt 4 and the upcoming Thunderbolt 5 wired connectivity, supporting up to 80 Gbps of bi-directional bandwidth.

And for those worried about compatibility, there’s good news: The Intel Core 14th Gen desktop processors remain compatible with both Intel 600 and 700 series chipsets. This means enthusiasts can easily upgrade their existing systems and enjoy the latest-generation gaming and creator performance. The pricing also remains unchanged: $589 for the Core i9-14900K, $409 for the i7-14700K, and $319 for the i5-14600K.

The Intel Core 14th Gen desktop processors will be available at retail outlets and via OEM partner systems starting Oct. 17, 2023. So, whether you’re a gamer looking for that competitive edge, a creator needing more power for your projects, or just a tech enthusiast wanting the latest and greatest, Intel’s new 14th-gen processors are definitely worth checking out, and we will have our full review later this week.
