Konami May Not Be Done With AAA Afterall

Rumours have been swirling for a while now about Konami and it giving up on the AAA scene. But it seems these reports may be unfounded.

According to Konami in a statement made to Nintendolife, they said “I can promise you that we’re definitely not leaving Metal Gear behind or anything like that. I know some blogs were claiming that online this morning, but I’m not really sure where they’d be getting that from.

“We’re still definitely working on console games and franchises such as Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Castlevania, PES and all the rest.”

It should be noted that the statement came from a Konami customer support rep rather than a member of the Dev or PR teams. They have made claims like this in the past, although now with Metal Gear out in the public hands, investors may be thinking twice about leaving the franchise behind. It is hard to say what the reality is until we hear a public statement from Konami, but this is some hope for the Publisher/Developer.

I for one would love to see Konami dive back into the AAA scene. With so many strong franchises, it would be a shame to see them all slip away. Metal Gear, Silent Hill and Castlevania are all games I would rather see on my home console than in a pachinko parlour.
