Lego Batman Casts Rosario Dawson As Batgirl

Lego Batman Casts Rosario Dawson As Batgirl 1

Lego Batman have chosen their Batgirl for the upcoming animated feature slated for an early 2017 release. The Hollywood Reporter has provided the confirmation of Rosario Dawson being the voice of Barbara Gordon, daughter of Jim Gordon in the upcoming Lego spinoff film.

Dawson most recently joined the Marvel Cinematic universe as Claire Temple in the gritty Netflix original hit “Daredevil”, and is now returning back to the DC universe. What is practically interesting, the actress is making a swift departure from a role with serious themes and undertones to comic book relief.  Alongside Will Arnett’s parody version of the dark knight, it’ll be interesting to see where she’ll take the character. This isn’t the only roll Dawson has portrayed for the DC universe, she also played Wonder Woman in Justice League: Throne of Atlantis. Backing her along Arnett’s Batman, will be Micheal Cera as Robin, and Zach Galifianakis as the prince of crime, Joker.

The Lego movie was a smashing success for Warner Bros. and now that they’re focusing on their strongest and most popular character, Batman. His universe is sure to continue the riches, considering Arnett’s depiction of the caped crusader was the fan-favorite among vast amount of characters introduced in the first film. This could open up a multitude of options for Warner Bros. They can expand their universe with the breath of DC characters they have at their disposal. It would be nice to see them focus on other characters of the league after Batman. Fans will be spoiled with a serious depiction of their most beloved characters with the DCEU (DC Comics Extended Universe) in conjunction with these parody versions with the LEGO brand.

DC and Warner Bros. have already produced two direct to home video releases of the Justice League called LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League and LEGO Justice League: Attack of the Legion of Doom. All a part of their DC Comics Super heroes series are absolutely a run ride and show the potential of how big the LEGO brand can play for warner Bros. going forward.

The film will be directed by “LEGO Movie” animation supervisor Chris Mckay with the scrip helmed by Seth Grahame-Smith.  “The LEGO Batman Movie” propels its way to theatres on February 10, 2017.
