From gear shifters to wheels, most gamers have developed an interest in sim racing at some point, but the price has always been a hiccup. Logitech is seeking to change that.
Even though Logitech has a history with sim racing hardware dating back to 2020, the hardware has advanced quite a bit since then. The most important draw is the patented TRUEFORCE system, which is designed to let the player feel road vibrations, engine rumbles, and weight in real time. This is naturally a pretty cool feature, and it has worked its way up to be included in over 50 games across PC, PlayStation, and XBOX.
But having that system involved with the hardware would naturally raise the price to more than a regular gamer would like to pay; that’s what Logitech is working to change with its new line of hardware. This new line includes the RS50 wheel system, the RS Pedals SE, and the G923 all-in-one.
The RS350 is perhaps disproving Logitech’s point, as it is PC-only and priced at $599.99 USD, but the wheel itself is pretty high quality and comes ready to use out of the box. The main feature here is the TRUEFORCE feedback, of course, but the RS350 also comes with 8 Newton-meters of torque to play with. There are also other included features like an OLED settings display and a desk clamp that can latch onto any desk or table available.
Heading over to the RS Pedals SE means looking at Logitech’s efforts to simulate the actual feel of driving again. These $129.99 USD pedals’ main feature is the Hall Effect throttle and brake pedals, which basically means it uses magnets and electricity to measure the amount of force pressed upon them.
The main asset of Hall Effect pedals is that there is no wear and tear from using mechanical pedals, and there are the added benefits of no dust or dirt interfering with the pedals, plus they have an extremely accurate reading of how much you press on them. Along with that, the RS Pedals have non-slip grips for any type of floor and can be upgraded to three pedals with the load cell brake module that is, unfortunately, sold separately.
Lastly, but definitely not leastly, is the All-In-One G923 PC-only racing solution; this bundle comes with a steering wheel and pedals for an affordable price point of $249.99 USD. Sporting, according to Logitech, “next-level TRUEFORCE force feedback” with a peak of 2.3 Newton-meters of torque. The pedals aren’t too bad either; they come with progressive brakes and three pedals in total for manual driving simulations.
Now, because Logitech is the official gaming peripherals partner for McLaren Racing, they have also announced an entire collection themed after the car brand. The RS50 McLaren Racing Bundle comes with a Direct Drive Wheel, 75Kg Load Cell Brake, and an RS Formula Steering Wheel. The wheel itself is also pre-packaged with TRUEFORCE and can also put out 8 Newton-meters of torque; plus, it comes in the McLaren Papaya Colourway.
As for the brakes, the 75 kg load cell term just means the amount of force it takes to press down on them. They also feature the Hall Effect, as discussed earlier, which is also tunable in GHUB. The brakes also have the same papaya colourway as the wheel, but to a lesser extent. As a side note, the wheel itself is modelled after the actual wheel used in the McLaren MCL38 F1 car.
