Rating Alert!

Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Rated By ESRB, Nintendo Horror for Everyone

The second title in the Nintendo Horror series, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD has been found rated over on the ESRB rating boards, which means the development of the port could be very close to finished.

The Nintendo Direct back in June 2023 had many surprises for fans, and one of them was the HD port of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, dubbed Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD for the Nintendo Switch scheduled to launch in 2024. The second game in the series is following the original Luigi’s Mansion, a full release on two separate Nintendo consoles, but instead of going to the Nintendo 3DS (like the original), it is heading from the handheld to the Nintendo Switch. The brief teaser trailer shown at the Nintendo Direct can be seen again below.

Today, the ESRB rating for Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD has gone live on the rating board’s official site, and to the surprise of absolutely no one, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is rated E for Everyone. But, what is surprising is what could be taken from the official rating listing.

From the ESRB rating website, there’s a post detailing their Ratings Process. On that page, it is inferred that publishers “fully disclose all the content in their games, so consumers get complete and reliable rating information”; otherwise, they can face steep fines. So it’s safe to say, based on the ESRB receiving ‘all content,’ Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD could be nearing completion.

While Nintendo has remained radio silent regarding the Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD port since the June 2023 Nintendo Direct announcement, it is possible the release date could be moved up from the initial ‘Summer 2024’ window posted in the teaser. While speculation on release dates is fun, fans shouldn’t take it as anything concrete until Nintendo releases an official statement.
