Magic: The Gathering Celebrates 30th Anniversary By Revealing Big 2024 Plans

Wizards of the Coast have prepared for Magic: The Gathering’s 30th anniversary, and they’ve pulled back the curtain on MTGs release plans through 2024 and beyond.

Today, Magic: The Gathering has unleashed a torrent of news while hosting a panel at Gen Con. Wizards of the Coast took to the stage and outlined the massive TCG’s plans, which contain all of MTGs big expansions throughout the year 2026. Although some are marked as ‘Codename,’ those markers still denote big releases and their timeframes. Fans can watch a video of the Gen Con panel on the official MTG YouTube, with all of the exciting announcements wrapped up in one tidy place.

Magic: The Gathering 30Th Anniversary Reveals 2024 Plans, Including Final Fantasy

Firstly, Magic: The Gathering announced brand new Universes Beyond collaborations in the same vein as the latest MTG Lord of the Rings set or the recently announced and upcoming Doctor Who set. While these sets do have limitations, the cards are meant to be played in specific formats and are traditionally not used for standard play. Final Fantasy will make its way to MTG and MTG: Arena sometime in 2025. This exciting set will take players from the original Final Fantasy all the way through the latest Final Fantasy XVI, and cards will be featured across the series.

Joining Final Fantasy is Bethesda’s Fallout series. Fans of both Magic: The Gathering and Fallout will be able to make worlds collide with the release of new Fallout-themed Commander Decks. The set will feature some of Fallout‘s most memorable moments, but on an unfamiliar wasteland, the tabletop. That’s not all MTG had up its sleeve. They’ve then outlined their upcoming release plans with wide-release windows until the end of next year.
