Earlier in the year, rumours spread that the Mass Effect TV series would cater to a ‘non-gamer’ audience, and Showrunner Daniel Casey has outright denied those claims.
It has been nearly a year since the Mass Effect TV Series at Prime Video found its two showrunners to bring the universe made famous by BioWare to the small screen. While not much has been confirmed or readily announced regarding the series, it didn’t stop the rumour mill from churning out the idea that Prime Video was making the series more ‘to a broader audience.’ At the beginning of the month, The Ankler posted a story suggesting Amazon’s new Head of Global TV, Peter Friedlander, has requested that the scripts for the upcoming Mass Effect TV series be rewritten to appeal to “non-gamers.”
Showrunner Daniel Casey took to BlueSky to promote the 100% Rotten Tomato score of his latest film. Casey said, “Thank you to anyone who watches” regarding his latest film, Wardriver. A fan took to the comments, asking Casey, “Are the reports about the Mass Effect series being rewritten to appeal to a non-gamer audience accurate?” with the hope that, if they were, it wouldn’t water down the experience or the world BioWare has built and catered to for over a decade.

Casey’s response was one of confusion. Casey said, “For whatever it’s worth, that article by the Ankler caught me off guard just as much as you. I don’t know where that ‘non-gaming audiences’ quote came from or who said it, but at no point has that been said to me.” So while it does appear the Mass Effect TV series is being worked on, the reports that claim the series will be moulded to cater to a broader audience at the expense of the source material are unfounded.
While not much is known regarding the Prime Video series, fans do know that it will take place after the events of the video game trilogy, and it won’t follow the game series’ protagonist, Commander Shepard. The TV series at Prime Video is still a big mystery (and still in the works), but fans can let out a sigh of relief that the Mass Effect showrunners care about the small details and who’s saying what about the production.
