The Next Metro Title Leaks & It Allegedly Has VR Functionality

There is a new PlayStation State of Play coming tomorrow, and before their big showcase a new Metro VR title (unconfirmed to be VR exclusive) has allegedly leaked.

The first PlayStation State of Play is scheduled for tomorrow, and it is a showcase that has a lot in the chamber to reveal. From Rise of the Ronin to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the showcase (and Sony) is primed to make a big splash to start the 2024 year. But just today a leak has sprung just before the showcase is set to air. Allegedly, a new Metro VR game is in the works, and Sony is set to take the cover off the title tomorrow.

The Metro series of games is based on a series of suspenseful novels by writer Dmitry Glukhovsky, and a first-person VR POV for this fantastical post-apocalyptic world could be a solid gambit for the just released last year PS VR2. Known leaker Kurakasis started the leak over on X (formerly Twitter), and it can be seen below.

While the leaker does appear to be sure that a Metro title will be announced at the State of Play, they have made note that “I DON’T KNOW if the game is singleplayer, multiplayer or both. I DON’T KNOW if the game is VR-only.” So, while the leak has been fired off (and still unproven), Kurakasis has made adjustments to not spread a ‘false’ VR-exclusive or single-player-only narrative.

It’s worth noting that there hasn’t been a new title in the dystopian setting of Glukhovsky’s novels since Metro Exodus in 2019, and a VR setting to explore the devastation would be a new perspective to see the world in. Fans should take note that none of this information has been corroborated by Sony or PlayStation, so fans should take all of the ‘leak’ with a grain of salt until the PlayStation State of Play airs tomorrow.

The PlayStation State of Play will drop tomorrow on the official PlayStation YouTube (or Twitch) at 5 p.m. EST.
