PlayStation State of Play Expected To Air January 31 (Update: Confirmed)

The Rumours Point One Way

PlayStation State of Play Expected To Air This Week 1

Sony has announced the first PlayStation State of Play for 2024 will take place Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. PT/10 p.m. GMT.

The State of Play is set to last 40 minutes and will include in-depth looks at both Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, new titles coming to PlayStation 5 this year. There is also talk of “more from talented game developers from around the world”, so PlayStation fans should get a solid dose of new information this week.

Original Story: While Sony has yet to confirm the next PlayStation State of Play broadcast, insiders point out that it could happen this Wednesday.

As the new year kicks off, it only means a fresh slate of games is expected to roll out with announcements. Microsoft’s own Xbox Developer Direct aired earlier this month, showing off Indiana Jones and The Great Circles, Avowed, Visions of Mana and more. Now, reliable insiders have suggested that a PlayStation State of Play broadcast is expected to air this week on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. While Sony has not said anything officially, multiple sources have speculated what games the upcoming showcase would be discussing more, such as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Death Stranding 2.

Ultra-reliable leaker billbil-kun said last week that there will be more on Death Stranding 2 very soon, and even predicted the subtitle for the game would be Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. The same leaker also noted how a Until Dawn remaster was headed to both PC and PlayStation 5, all very exciting things to expect soon at a potential State of Play.

XboxEra’s Nick Baker and YouTuber Rand al Thor have both suggested Sony’s broadcast will be happening this week. They hinted that BioShock creator Ken Levine’s Judas would also be highlighted in the show, along with updates on Rise of the Ronin, Silent Hill 2, remasters of Sonic Generations and Until Dawn.

Baker jokingly tweeted about the potential livestream: “On the 31st (roughly), Ronins will Rise, we’ll die stranded, have a rebirth and [Hideo] Kojima will fulfil his dream. Sonic will live in the shadow of his generation while the hills will remain silent until the dawn when you’ll need to catch the metro. Just don’t be a Judas about it.”

Other leakers have also reportedly found that the new Metro game could be titled Metro Awakening, which will be a VR game. This could mean that it could be a PSVR2 exclusive. One of the most mysterious games to come out of May 2023’s PlayStation State of Play showcase was the multiplayer FPS game, Concord.

Concord has been developed by Firewalk Studios, which joined Playstation Studios a few months ago. It was described and shown to be in a colourful science fiction universe and will be released on PS5 and PC in 2024. So far, many speculators have noted the game has been strongly inspired by Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy by Square Enix. So, it is possible that Concord could be a multiplayer version of that game, in essence.

Many rumours have been appearing recently from the PlayStation camp, so it could only mean a showcase is expected soon. If Sony’s PlayStation State of Play occurs this week, the only contender left is Nintendo. So, February could welcome the next Nintendo Direct.
