Metroid: Samus Returns Amiibo Functionality Announced

Metroid: Samus Returns Amiibo Functionality Announced 1

Nintendo has listed the amiibo functionality for their upcoming Metroid remake.

The official Japanese website for the Nintendo 3DS remake of Metroid: Samus Returns launched recently. The website offers descriptions of what all of the Metroid-themed amiibo will do when used in the game.

By using Samus Aran amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. Series, players will unlock extra missles along with a concept art gallery. The Zero Suit Samus amiibo can restore the player’s health while also unlocking the sound test option. The new upcoming Samus Aran amiibo will recover player’s special ability. It will also unlock a special Metroid 2 Art Gallery. The new Metroid amiibo unlocks the Metroid marker ability, telling players the location of the nearest Metroid. It also unlocks the Fusion difficulty mode.

While the Japanese site lists all these features, it doesn’t confirm whether or not the amiibo are the only way to unlock the extra content. There are potentially more perks that can be unlocked through amiibo functionality. These features are likely to be listed as the game nears its release date.

Metroid: Samus Returns was announced at E3 this year during Nintendo’s Treehouse livestream. The game is a reimagining of Metroid II: Samus Returns for the Game Boy. Metroid: Samus Returns features completely redone graphics along with a number of new features and abilities for Samus to make use of. The game is being developed collaboratively by Nintendo and MercurySteam.

Along with the announcement of Metroid: Samus Returns, Nintendo announced two new Metroid-themed amiibo. One of them is of Samus Aran, posed in the same way she is on the cover of the new game. The second amiibo is of the iconic Metroid itself, clinging to the side of a broken capsule. The two amiibo will be available in a dual package.

Both Metroid: Samus Returns and the new Metroid amiibo will be available in September.
