This Week in Mobile Gaming: a Super GUNDAM Network Test, Honkai Gets Updated & FF Mobile News!

For mobile gaming news this week, HoYoverse unleashes a Honkai: Star Rail update, Bandai opens a strategy GUNDAM title for network tests and Final Fantasy X-2 characters come to mobile!

Mobile gaming has had yet another busy week in December, with HoYoverse raking in awards at the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Awards ceremony (including the giveaway of premium currency in Honkai: Star Rail, Genshin Impact, and the new Zenless Zone Zero titles), and Zenless Zone Zero revealing its latest Version update 1.4. But while the newest title in the HoYoverse catalogue is preparing to launch its latest update, the HoYoverse middle child, Honkai: Star Rail, just launched its own version 2.7 update.

That’s not all, mobile gaming this week also celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the Marvel Contest of Champions (complete with goodies for fans), Final Fantasy X-2 characters are going mobile and Bandai Namco is opening a network test for the upcoming strategy-based SD Gundam G Generation ETERNAL.

Mobile Suits will be coming to mobile with the newly announced strategy title, SD Gundam G Generation ETERNAL continuing the G Generation saga of GUNDAM titles. Like every other title featured in the GUNDAM franchise, the new strategy game brings oodles of Mobile Suits from across the entire universe of GUNDAM to the battlefield, this time, in the Super Deformed chibi-style. To commemorate the launch, Bandai Namco has launched a mobile gaming network test for SD Gundam G Generation ETERNAL. Sadly, the network test is for US-based fans only.

Network test sign-ups are open now through the official GUNDAM website, and it will run from January 23 until January 28 in 2025, for both Android and the iOS platform.

Honkai: Star Rail Deploys the “A New Venture on the Eighth Dawn” Version 2.7!

Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.7, A New Venture on the Eighth Dawn went live this week, and Trailblazers can dive in to all of the updated content today. This update brings the final chapter before the Express sets its course for the mysterious realm of Amphoreus, the Eternal Land, effectively ending the current story arc in Penacony. As the final chapter is winding down, Honkai: Star Rail is introducing two playable five-star characters for the sunset, Sunday and Fugue. Players will also have the chance to obtain reruns of five-star favourite characters, Jing Yuan and Firefly.

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, from Version 2.7 through the end of Version 3.2, Trailblazers can claim the “Gift of the Express,” allowing them to acquire one regular five-star character of their choice for FREE. Fans can also claim 1,000 Stellar Jades for just logging in due to the PlayStation Anniversary, so fans should log in before Version 2.7 ends to claim the free Stellar Jades.

Marvel Contest of Champions 10-Year Anniversary Celebration & Rise of the Eidols

The mobile gaming juggernaut, Marvel Contest of Champions is still going strong and in celebration of its 10-year-strong run, Kabam is giving stuff away. Fans can celebrate with the return of the Banquet Event allowing fans to claim slick rewards for completing banquet tasks, Calendar/Realm events, quests and a new Glorious Guardians Banquet Box for doing the work. If fans acquire six Banquet Keys throughout objectives in ‘The Contest’, they will receive all six Glorious Guardians (Purgatory, Medusa, Black Panther from Civil War, Deadpool from X-Force, Sentry and Sentinel) as a bonus.

Kabam has also uncorked its biggest mobile gaming giveaway yet. From December 10 through December 19 new and existing players can check in to The Contest every day to be rewarded with a free Champion in the Grand 10×10 Supply Drop. Seasoned Summoners will be awarded 10x 7-Star Champions for FREE (if they’ve reached Paragon or higher) and all members who claim the full drop on all 10 days will get the newest five-star character, Isophyne, for FREE.

Square Enix has graced mobile gaming this Holiday Season by updating both FINAL FANTASY VII EVER CRISIS with winter-themed gear, and WAR OF THE VISIONS FINAL FANTASY BRAVE EXVIUS with a free five-star character as a bonus for playing.

First off, FINAL FANTASY VII EVER CRISIS is unleashing the new “A Holiday Battle: The Holy Flame’s Bounty” Holiday Event, letting players venture out on a whole new winter campaign until the New Year. As a bonus gift, Square Enix is giving players a Daily Free 10 Draw, Login Bonuses for a 5★ Guaranteed Weapon Draw Ticket, up to 1,500 Blue Crystals and a Mythril Ingot during the duration of the event.

Then, WAR OF THE VISIONS FINAL FANTASY BRAVE EXVIUS is also embracing its inner Christmas spirit by giving away a five-star character free of charge to commemorate the debut of fan-favourite FINAL FANTASY X-2 characters in the mobile gaming title. The trio of protagonists Yuna, Riku and Paine can be recruited to War of the Visions teams with Yuna as a UR Light-Type Gunner and Paine as a UR Dark-Type Warrior, mirroring their FFX-2 designs. Fans will be able to recruit Paine completely free in December, giving fans a leg up for the event’s duration.
