Xbox and Activision have revealed a big-name actor is coming to the Call of Duty franchise, one that anyone who’s played Death Stranding or Hitman might be quite familiar with, Mads Mikkelsen.
As revealed in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s new campaign trailer, Mikkelsen will be assuming the role of the the main villain. While we know his character is called “The Archer,” we don’t know anything else about Mads role, as Activision seems to be keeping it intentionally close to the chest.
But the trailer does lay out the drama at the heart of Modern Warfare 4, with Captain Price going rogue and Gaz and Ghost sent to hunt him down. A blurb describing the story reads, “In parallel with the Korean invasion and the ongoing manhunt for Price lies an even greater threat,” explained the developer Infinity Ward. “An unknown weapon of war is being delivered to a dangerous enemy known only as “The Archer.” What’s the weapon capable of, and what are the Archer’s motives in acquiring it?”
That’s already a lot going on, before you add Archer into the mix. Mikkelsen, of course, likely needs no introduction, as the beloved actor is well known for playing the likes of Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the Hannibal TV series, Galen Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Le Chiffre in Casino Royale. In the world of video games he recently reprised his role from James Bond for a Hitman mission, but is likely better known as Cliff Unger from Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding.
Call of Duty also isn’t any stranger to celebrity cameos, featuring Kit Harrington, Sam Worthington, Idris Elba, Ice Cube, and more across the years.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Those that pre-order the Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition will get Campaign early access starting on October 16.
