Naughty Dog Veteran Bruce Straley Announces his Departure 1

Bruce Straley has officially announced his departure from Naughty Dog.

In a post on Naughty Dog’s official website, director Bruce Straley revealed that he will be leaving the company after 18 years. Straley cited his reason for leaving that he wished to pursue other ventures, recognizing this as the right time for him to move on from Naughty Dog.

Throughout his time spent with the company, Bruce Straley has worked on a number of large-scale titles released by the developer. He joined Naughty Dog in 1999, working as a texture artist on Crash Team Racing for the original PlayStation. He later went on to work on the 2001 Jak and Daxter games, released on the PlayStation 2. In addition to his work as an artist, Straley has served as a designer and more recently as a director. He’s credited for his work on the critically acclaimed 2013 title, The Last of Us and for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End which released just last year for the PlayStation 4. Despite Straley takin his leave however, he expressed that the company’s future is still brighter than ever.

“I’m leaving Naughty Dog with the strongest team it’s ever had, and that’s saying a lot. But more than the talent, it’s the people who I’ll miss the most. The work culture at Naughty Dog is about getting out of your seat and solving problems together. It’s what has allowed me to build so many friendships and gain so much respect for this stellar group of people.” said Straley in his final post.

Along with thanking a number of people he’s been able to work alongside of, Straley also sent out his gratitude to the many fans of the game’s  he’s helped develop. Those interested in reading his full goodbye statement can do so at Naughty Dog’s website.

We at CGMagazine also thank Bruce Straley for all of his hard work in the game’s industry and wish him luck with whatever he chooses to take on next.
