Neil Gaiman, the legendary author of The Sandman, American Gods, and Coraline is set to write the TV adaptation of Good Omens.
According to The Guardian, Gaiman announced that he would be writing the adaptation during a memorial event for the late Sir Terry Pratchett at the Barbican in London.
Gaiman, who co-wrote the book with longtime friend Sir Terry Pratchett, initially said he would never adapt the 1990 apocalyptic-comedy without Pratchett. However, Gaiman received a posthumous letter from Pratchett telling him to do the show without him. During the event, he said, “At that point, I think I said, ‘You bastard, yes,’”
Good Omens tells the tale of Crowley the demon and Aziraphale the angel teaming up to deal with the Antichrist – who is, owing to a muddled baby swap, a schoolboy growing up in modern, rural England, before he brings about the End of Days.
Little is known about the TV show, aside from Gaiman hinting that it will be a “six-part television series.” No release date has been scheduled.
