Capcom Debuts New Onimusha During The Game Awards 2024

In what was a night of surprising reveals during The Game Awards 2024, Capcom debuted a stunning gameplay trailer for the brand new Onimusha: The Way of the Sword.

Onimusha: The Way of the Sword looks to improve on the franchise’s iconic sword-based combat as players slash their way through legions of demons in feudal Japan. This will be the first official Onimusha game released since 2006.

Showing off a plethora of intense action and high-fidelity visuals, whether Onimusha: Way of the Sword is meant to be a reboot of the franchise, or a possible continuation is yet to be known. Featuring combat against smaller sword-wielding enemies and monstrous beasts, this newest entry looks to be a try evolution of the series.

With the success of the Resident Evil remakes and the evolution of the series itself, it stands to reason that Capcom is in a good position to bring this beloved horror hack n’ slash to modern audiences with a new look and enhanced gameplay. In 2024, Capcom released Onimusha VR: Shadow Team which may have been a testing ground to see if there was any interest in the brand.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2026.
