Nintendo announces March 2017 release for NX, Zelda Delay

Nintendo’s annual fiscal-year earnings were released on Wednesday in via Nintendo’s Japanese arm, within these releases, came some big news for Nintendo fans of the world: A launch window for the yet unnamed follow-up to the Wii u, the NX will now be launching in March 2017.

Tucked in the outlook section of the report it outlines that: “For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed “NX” with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally.” There are no clear indications on what the “brand-new concept” would involve, but if rumours swirling around for the last few months are anything to go by, this could be a fully new system for Nintendo, one that may merge the mobile and console experiences.

With such a close release date, it would be expected that the new system would be at the June Electronic Entertainment Expo in some capacity. That idea was shot down by CEO Tatsumi Kimishima in a conference call confirmed that the system would not be visible at the June show. Furthermore, in various statements Nintendo have confirmed that the Wii U Version of the game will be the only one playable at the show.

These announcements of their E3 plans also point to Zelda being a simultaneous Wii U and NX game, pushing the release window for the game to next March 2017, much later than the fall many fans were hoping for.

While this may not be the news fans wanted to hear about Zelda or the NX, The Nikkei reports “Features, price, software at launch and other details to be announced by the end of the year” So fans will not have long to wait to find out more about the next system.
