With the Nintendo NX reveal looming on the horizon, Nintendo fans have been speculating about the NX for awhile. A variety of rumours have been circulating over the past two years, with one source close to Nintendo suggesting that the NX will use hardware similar to Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One. We also know for certain that the NX will feature as a grand prize in an upcoming Splatoon tournament. While little remains certain, new information is starting to come out. Case in point: Pokémon Company’s Tsunekazu Ishihara confirmed that Pokémon will be headed to the Nintendo NX.
As the Wall Street Journal reports, Ishihara stated the company “will make games for the NX.” He also noted that the NX “is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device.” That claim falls in line with earlier rumours that suggest the NX will be some kind of console and hand-held hybrid.
While Ishihara’s statements are minimal, his quotes for the Wall Street Journal reflect a report made by MCV earlier this year. According to reporter Christopher Dring, Game Freak will be bringing a Pokémon title to the platform “within the first six months of the machine’s life.” Alongside third-party titles from Sega, Square Enix, Ubisoft and Activision, Dring said their source also confirmed that the NX will be “a portable machine that can be plugged into a TV and features a breakaway controller.”
It’s hard to say for certain what the Nintendo NX will be like. Until Nintendo officially unveils the console’s features, abilities and launch titles, fans only have rumors and hints to speculate. It’s safe to say for certain, though, that Nintendo plans to hit the ground running with the NX when it launches next year. Expect more news about the console in the coming months ahead as Nintendo NX’s official March 2017 release draws closer.
