Nintendo revealed some figure numbers for a few of the Nintendo Switch’s launch titles.
In a financial results briefing by Nintendo President, Tatsumi Kimishima and Mr. Furukawa, General Manager of the company’s planning department, details on certain Nintendo Switch titles were revealed. It was confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sold over three million units worldwide with nearly 90 per cent of the Switch’s user base having purchased the title in March. Nintendo speculates that with the current momentum of the game, it may lead to a new sell-through record for The Legend of Zelda series. 1-2-Switch, another title that released alongside the Switch, is on track to ship one million units very soon. Sales numbers for third-party titles on the Switch are also doing well.
Snipperclips – Cut it out, together! was an indie title released exclusively for the digital market and developed in a short timeframe. Since its launch, the e-shop title has been downloaded over 350 thousand times worldwide. Konami’s Super Bomberman R has performed exceptionally well, shipping over 500 thousand units in under a month after releasing on the Switch. An interesting note is that aside from The Legend of Zelda, each title has a core focus on multiplayer, a potential reason for their success.
With the recent sales figures revealed, it’s clear that Nintendo is finding success with their new console, making a complete turn-around from its predecessor. The Switch continues to be sold out nearly everywhere around the world since its launch in March, shipping over two million units in its first month. Despite complaints about the original launch lineup for the Switch, the majority of the titles have performed well so far.
Nintendo is continuing to slowly add to the Switch’s lineup with games planned for the rest of 2017. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe released today for the console and upcoming titles such as ARMS and Splatoon 2 are planned for later this summer. A number of third-party games are set to release in the upcoming months, hopefully keeping Switch users satisfied until the next major release.
