Paragon initially launched in 2016 as the latest MOBA from Epic Games which then subsequently shut down in 2018, and for the second time, the MOBA (rebranded as The Overprime) faces another shutdown in April.
Yesterday, the team over at NetMarble officially announced the second closure of the Paragon servers. This is after the original’s shutdown from Epic Games, and after they allowed everyone who uses the Unreal Engine to use former in-game assets freely. NetMarble obtained permission to relaunch the game (with a small name change) and did so in December 2022, and has now decided to call it quits on Paragon: The Overprime. The server shutdown is scheduled for April.
The NetMarble team said in its statement, “First, we would like to express our wholehearted gratitude for your love and support over the past year and three months, starting with Early Access on Dec 8th, 2022,” mentioning the game has been in early access since launch. The team then unleashed the sad news of server shutdown “After careful consideration, we concluded that we will not be able to provide a stable and satisfying service moving forward. Because of this, we have made the decision to end the service on Monday, April 22nd, 2024.”
The team at NetMarble has also expressed their condolences for the shutdown, saying, “We are deeply sorry for the unexpected and unfortunate termination of the service. We deeply cherish the encouragement and support you have given us until now despite our shortcomings.” This is despite the fact that a new character, Terra, was actively being worked on for release on the Paragon battlefield.
While the Paragon: The Overprime server shutdown is imminent, the Paragon: The Overprime Discord will remain up for a whole week after April 22 so players can remain connected throughout the title’s closure. Fans looking for more information can head over to the official NetMarble website for the whole announcement.
