Previously known as Codename ‘Annex’ in late 2022, Pioneers of New Dawn is an MMO in the works from the industry-veteran-laden team at Arctic Theory, and they’ve detailed their plans towards launch.
Arctic Theory is a development studio comprised of industry veterans who have previously worked with CCP Games, Electronic Arts, and even Epic Games. Their newest project has finally received an official name outside the Code category. Pioneers of New Dawn is a fresh MMO in the works from the same developers who have worked on EVE Online and more, bringing industry MMO experience to the forefront of a new grandiose world.
After receiving $2M in funding in late 2022 from the Technology Development Fund, Arctic Theory has been able to increase its development team and prowess, to potentially release the title sometime in 2023. On top of the latest update regarding Pioneers of New Dawn, Arctic Theory has also announced a rebranding that features a new logo, and a new website to commemorate the occasion.
Arctic Theory’s launch strategy isn’t groundbreaking, but it is very transparent and inclusive. With the new website, Pioneers of New Dawn‘s development will be constantly updated so that fans will be kept in the loop during the remaining development time. Creative Director and Co-Founder Gísli Konráðsson cited “There’s a trend in our industry of making grand announcements about groundbreaking features and immersive world-building mechanics in games that often fall short at launch, especially in the MMO genre” as the reasoning for their transparent approach.
Pioneers of New Dawn is an MMO set in the sandbox world of New Dawn, where the player is inserted into the world centuries after an ecological disaster has maimed the planet. You are a Pioneer, a descendant of New Dawn’s former inhabitants prior to the disaster, and your mission is to explore, survey, and rebuild society. While rebuilding society, players can establish outposts and settlements on their quest to create a New Dawn together.
While Pioneers of New Dawn is still in active development, the development team at Arctic Theory has claimed there will be a closed alpha taking place in Q4 2023, and more information will be released soon regarding this ambitious new MMO.
