Sony Commits To Only 6 PlayStation Live Service Titles Out Of The Planned 12

In a financial call between the heads of Sony and PlayStation, Sony President Hiroki Totoki has reeled in the company’s expectations on how many live service games will hit market by 2025.

In a new financial earnings call, Sony President Hiroki Totoki has revealed plans for some upcoming titles in the PlayStation catalogue, more importantly, the previously announced 12 live service games Sony planned to launch.

Previous reports back in February 2022 suggested Sony planned to use 60% of its PlayStation budget on 12 live service games over the next few years, and the earnings call today suggested that number will be at least halved. While six of the planned titles are still set to launch by the fiscal year 2025 (March 2026), recent developments like massive Bungie layoffs and problems with the live service The Last of Us multiplayer title (Factions) have likely forced Sony’s hand.

Hiroki Totoki says, “We are reviewing this. We have not been able to meet the gamers’ expectations, but we are trying as much as possible that this would be played by the gamers and liked by gamers for a long time. So six titles will be released by FY ’25. That’s our current plan. And the remaining six titles, as for when to be released, we are still working on that” in a statement made on the financial earnings call this morning.

So, while Sony did not name the PlayStation titles that are in the works for the forecasted March 2026 release window (FY 2025), six are scheduled to land on or before then, with no commitment given for the other six titles planned. Although The Last of Us Factions has seen development troubles, fans have been given confirmation by Naughty Dog themselves that the title is indeed still in the works.

PlayStation’s upcoming live service title delays are still a developing story, but fans can head over to the Sony website for all the financial call details revealed this morning.
