Psychonauts 2 Delayed To 2020

What’s One More Year, Really?

Psychonauts 2 Delayed To 2020 2

In a backer update on Fig, Double Fine announced that their long-awaited Psychonauts 2 was being pushed back to 2020.

Originally scheduled for a 2018 release before slipping down to 2019, the sequel to the 2005 PS2 classic has been pushed back once more. This could have something to do with quality standards set by publisher and recent studio owner Microsoft, who announced their purchase of Double Fine at this year’s E3. It could also be a result of the recent trend in the last few months of studios delaying games to avoid crunch, which mirrors the statement given for the fellow Microsoft-published game Cuphead and its upcoming DLC.

Psychonauts was fondly remembered for its decent platforming, fun writing, and interesting examination of its cast’s psyches via a variety of colourful mindscapes. I haven’t played it myself, but I’ve seen the game through to the end and enjoyed the experience, so I’m interested to see what the sequel has in store. With over $3 million raised on Fig and further backing from Microsoft, we’re sure to get a product that is, if nothing else, polished.

Psychonauts 2 will, once again, be releasing some time in 2020 under Microsoft’s banner. Stay tuned for more details on the psychic platformer in the coming months.
