Capcom Says More Resident Evil Remakes Are On the Way

After the wild success of the last three Resident Evil remakes, Capcom has confirmed that it wants to keep remaking games in the series. Resident Evil 4 director Yasuhiro Anpo confirmed the company’s plans at a PlayStation partner award event in Japan.

As reported by IGN Japan, Anpo said “We’ve released three remakes so far and they have all been received very well. Since it allows a modern audience to play these games, it is something I am happy to do as someone that loves these older games, and we want to continue doing more.”

It’s easy to see why Capcom would want to continue its remake trend, as the last three games have been received overwhelmingly positive. Both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 have received rave reviews, with the latter sitting at a 93 on Metacritic and being nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards. Resident Evil 3 didn’t fare quite as well, but still managed to sell nearly 9 million copies.

Of course, the big question now is what Capcom hopes to remake next. In that regard, Anpo says “What game we will remake in the future is something that we would like to announce in the future, so please look forward to it.”

There are a few options, with Code Veronica being the most obvious and most in need of a remake. If you’re unfamiliar with Code Veronica, it takes place shortly after Resident Evil 2. It follows Claire and Chris Redfield as they try to stop a viral infection on a remote prison island. Capcom could also go to the next chronological game with Resident Evil 5 or even look backward for a remake of Resident Evil 0.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see, but in the meantime, Capcom has Resident Evil 4’s VR mode set to be released on December 8.
