At The Walking Dead SDCC panel, it was revealed the long awaited spinoff series focusing on Rick Grimes and Michonne is coming in 2023.
With AMC’s The Walking Dead coming to a close soon, there was a lot of buzz for the series going into San Diego Comic-Con, and fans were not let down. Many members of the cast and crew of the iconic series came together to celebrate the final few episodes of the show. From trailers, to a star-studded panel, there was plenty to be excited about from this year’s show.
It has been years since the news of a Rick Grimes spin off was announced, but little has been said up to this point. Outside a teaser and some small trickles of information, fans had little to go on about the spin-off or when they could expect it to finally hit. That all changed with the SDCC panel, where Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira hit the stage and revealed the news that a Rick and Michonne series would be coming our way in 2023.
Originally intended to be a trilogy of movies, the new six-episode series would be a last goodbye to the legendary characters, and the story that has stuck with so many as they pushed through their struggle against the undead and the many people who will stop at nothing to survive. While there is little to go on beyond a poster and a synopsis, fans who have been anticipating the spinoff finally have an answer on when they can expect the next chapter in the saga.
“This series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? It is not long now before we finally put an end to this chapter of The Walking Dead, and give Rick and Michonne the send-off they deserve.
