The Walking Dead is coming to an end in 2022 after AMC confirmed Season 11 will close off the long-running zombie series.
The last season will also air 24 episodes, half of which will show in 2021 and the final episodes in the following year. But the franchise will be moving on from its main series, with a spinoff starring Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier, two original characters who have stayed alive since the show first aired in 2010.
According to IGN, the spinoff will be premiering in 2023 after The Walking Dead ends while another anthology series called Tales of The Walking Dead is also in the pipeline. That show features self-contained episodes centered on different characters and feature “new or existing characters, backstories or other stand-alone experiences.”
Viewers are also waiting for a separate movie about Rick Grimes after his departure from the series and The Walking Dead: World Beyond series which adds a lighter tone to its zombie backdrop. World Beyond focuses on a group of teenage survivors as they come to grips with the new reality, young romance and personal struggles in a coming-of-age story. The series is also limited at two episodes and starts premiering on October 4, 2020.
AMC is also keeping its tenth season alive with six more episodes while its finale “A Certain Doom” was postponed from COVID-19 work challenges. The Walking Dead airs its Season 10 finale on October 4, 2020 just before the premiere of World Beyond.
