After ten long years, Rockstar is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a first look at Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) in a trailer set to drop next month.
Fans of Grand Theft Auto have reason to celebrate, as developer Rockstar Games is finally ready to unveil their next entry. According to a press release from Rockstar founder Sam Houser, the studio plans to release the first trailer for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 in early December.
This news comes just in time for Rockstar’s 25th anniversary next month. The studio, known for pioneering the open-world crime genre with the original GTA in 1997, wants to celebrate this milestone by giving eager fans their first look at GTA 6.
An official announcement has been made by Rockstar confirming a GTA trailer will drop soon, though they don’t mention GTA 6 by name. The game has been in development for years, with early leaked gameplay footage surfacing online last year. These leaks provided a glimpse at what appears to be a female protagonist and a fictionalized version of Miami as a setting.
Rockstar has kept mum about most GTA 6 details, opting to wait until the game is further along to reveal more. But with the series’ last entry, GTA 5, turning ten years old this year, speculation is rampant that a sequel is imminent.
GTA 5 has sold over 185 million copies to date, making it one of the best-selling games ever. It has spanned multiple console generations with continued support, including regular updates to the insanely popular GTA Online multiplayer mode.
Last year, hackers did give an early look at GTA 6 via leaked footage. The leak was blamed on “network intrusion” and made it clear they would “introduce you to this next game when it is ready.” While an early look at the game, it gave a sense of the scope Rockstar is looking to reach with this new installment.
It goes without saying that GTA fans are chomping at the bit for a brand-new entry in the revered franchise. If the trailer drops as expected in December, it will likely premiere at The Game Awards on the 7th. This would be a fitting venue to showcase Rockstar’s next open-world epic finally.
