Rumor: Microsoft developing 'AAA' Kinect shooter in Vancouver

Microsoft isn’t ready to abandon Kinect as a hardcore gaming platform.

Microsoft has opened a new development studio called MGS Vancouver, and the official website says that the team will be making games for ‘core’ gamers.

“Our mission is to push the limits of proven and unexplored game development and show the world what’s possible on Microsoft’s game consoles,” reads on the site.

Apparently, that also means that MGS Vancouver will be working on new controller-free titles. The online resume of art director Shawn Woods references a “core AAA shooter experience using Kinect.” So far, Kinect has largely been a platform for casual games, but Microsoft has been promising a title that would cater to hardcore fans. The Vancouver studio could be working on that project, and if the website is any indication – the backdrop is ripped straight out of a Call of Duty game – they’re probably working on a shooter.

No games have been announced, but we’ll let you know if (and when) they become official.
