Runescape has undergone many changes since its humble days as one of the biggest free-to-play MMORPGs. Now its gearing up for its newest expansion which looks to take the game in a different direction.
Announced via press release, Havenhythe Part II is Runescape’s biggest largest ever area-expansion in 25 years. The new, members-only content introduces four brand-new areas to explore, a climactic battle to defend Havenhythe from the Sanguine threat, and a whimsical standalone Bangolin quest. The area is said to be a “haven for players who are questers, fighters, or skillers alike.” Havenhythe Part II will combine the sense of epic world building that fans of Runescape are familiar with, alongside new activities to further enhance multiple skills, even after the climax of the current Havenhythe storyline.
However, getting to this new location won’t be easy, as players will need a Crafting level of 51, Herblore of 55, Mining of 65, and Smithing of 60. However, those who can brave the challenges of Havenhythe Part II will be rewarded with an ultra-rare, best-in-slot hatchet, alongside “Bogolin Pearls,” which can be spent on new upgrades and local rewards. Players can also earn Chima Moss Spools for stackable bowstring resources, and a Bogolin Knife and Torch, as well as new sources of standard rune essence.
“Havenhythe’s arrival on Gielinor earlier this year opened a new region for players of all levels to explore, while offering the first glimpse of a new threat: the Sanguine,” said Lead Game Designer, RuneScape Bradley Hickey. He continued, “Today’s update raises the stakes for veteran adventurers, introducing brand new skilling content, new training methods, powerful rewards and dangerous new beasts to slay, before bringing this chapter of the Havenhythe’s storyline to a dramatic close.”
Runescape is available to play for free across PC, Android and iOS, including the classic low-resolution version fans grew up with (appropriately titled Runescape: Old School), and the massive “glow-up” version. An open-world survival spinoff titled Runescape: Dragonwilds launched for PC and consoles on September 15th, 2026.
