Samuel L. Jackson and Nick Fury Get The Spotlight On Disney+

The slate of Marvel Cinematic Universe series in the Disney+ pipeline is already enough to keep fans fed for the next few years – and now Nick Fury has been added to list, with Samuel L. Jackson set to return.

As Nick Fury, Jackson acted as a common thread through many of the MCU’s first decade of films – appearing in eleven movies, to various extents, and even having a small part in early episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Despite playing a central role in the franchise as the shadowy Director, Fury has never had a story of his very own, always supporting one of the heroes (as he did in last year’s Captain Marvel.)

Little has been announced beyond the project’s existence, since it is still in development, but Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot) is set to write and executive produce.

Disney+ already has a packed slate of original MCU projects: WandaVision is expected before the end of 2020, and 2021 will see The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and What If…?. Looking into 2022 and beyond, solo series for Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk are in development as well. This means we may not see Nick Fury’s turn in the spotlight until at least 2022, or even 2023.

Nick Fury was created in 1963 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Jackson was later used as the inspiration for the character’s Ultimates universe iteration in 2002, created by Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Allred. Life imitated art years later when Jackson was cast as Fury for a cameo in 2008’s Iron Man.
