Sam Raimi Confirms Fifth Evil Dead Movie Is Coming

A Pleasant Surprise

Sam Raimi Confirms Fifth Evil Dead Movie Is Coming 1

At New York Comic-Con last weekend, Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi confirmed that a fifth movie in the franchise was in the works.

Details are slim, but Raimi unambiguously confirmed that “There’s more Evil Dead coming.” While franchise staple Bruce Campbell, who plays iconic hero Ash, has retired from the role, the actor will participate as a producer. Fans are still left to wonder if the new film will bring Campbell out of retirement, if it will be a continuation of the Starz series Ash vs Evil Dead, or even a sequel to Fede Alvarez’s 2013 Evil Dead remake. We’ll have to wait and see.

Speaking on the Campbell situation, Raimi said “I would be thrilled if Bruce Campbell changed his mind about retirement, would come back for the original Evil Dead line. But if not, I’m very happy to work with, if Fede [Álvarez] would come back and make the sequel… but he’s such a big shot now. He’s so successful, an artist in demand, that I don’t think he’d want to do that.”

Fortunately, the wait may not be too long. Raimi mentioned that an Evil Dead concept could be ready as early as next spring. Raimi mentioned three months ago in an interview with Bloody Disgusting that we were going to see some Evil Dead action within the next six months, and we’re still waiting to see what that entails.

The Álvarez 2013 Evil Dead entry was less a remake than the beginning of its own storyline in the same universe, said Raimi. He’s alluded to there being several ways a future film could go – and all but stated that he wants the next Evil Dead entry to be a film – but what all of this means is up in the air until further notice. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything substantial.
