Submarines and giant sea monsters are making their way to World of Warships, just in time for Halloween.
While World of Warships is a game that prides itself on being historically accurate, with its vast array of ships from different nations and eras, the development team decided that they wanted to change things up for this special event. This changing of the guard brings with it new steampunk submarines as well as various sea-monsters.
The submarine class only has one weapon, a torpedo, as well as two ports from which they can be fired. Torpedos are extremely powerful and have the potential to cause a mass amount of damage if they hit their mark. Submarines also have oxygen levels and need to re-emerge from the water every so often, which adds another layer of strategy to them.
Speaking to PC Gamer, Wargaming’s regional publishing director Rajeev Girdhar called submarines a, “high risk, high reward class,” adding that they are “extremely fragile but if you’re positioned well enough you can create havoc.”
Submarines have been at the top of player’s wish lists since the game launched and their arrival is certainly a cause for excitement. That being said, the new crafts will only be available to use in the new PvE mode and will disappear from the game once the Halloween event is over. That’s not to say that the door is completely closed on their inclusion in the future and Wargaming has said that depending on how the event goes, Submarines could make their way into the game permanently, as early as next year.
As for the seas monsters, not much has been revealed in terms of what they will mean for gameplay. They will, however, be enormous in size and exist in the deep bowels of the ocean.
World of Warships is a free to play game that originally launched on September 17th, 2015 on PC and has since made its way to Mac OS as well as mobile in the form of World of Warships: Blitz. It was recently announced that the game will be coming to PlayStation 4 and XBox One at some point in 2019.
