After saying there would be a showcase today earlier in the week, the moment has arrived for Sonic Central 2023, and here are all of the announcements from the event.
Sonic fans have been eating well over the past few weeks with the physical release of Sonic Origins Plus, and the announcement of Sonic Superstars, but SEGA wasn’t ready to hang up their hat quite yet. The third annual Sonic Central 2023 showcase aired today, including some interesting developments surrounding the iconic character, and the entire thing can be seen just below.
Sonic Frontiers Birthday Update
The Sonic Central 2023 kicked off with Sonic Frontiers and showed what it has in store for a Blue Blur birthday bash celebration! There will be new challenges, new collectable Kocos, new moves including the forgotten spin dash, and a New Game Plus mode will be added to the latest 3D Sonic title. The Sonic Frontiers birthday bash update is available later today for FREE.
Sonic Central 2023 Announcements
- On top of the Frontiers announcement, Sonic Central 2023 dropped a new Classic Sonic skin on Sonic Speed Simulator in Roblox, including a tuxedo-clad hero option.
- The previously announced Sonic Prime season two revealed a new teaser, showing the reluctance of Sonic and Shadow to set aside differences and work together for the greater good. A new version of Metal Sonic may have also been introduced, but fans will have to wait until the July 13th release date to find out more. Netflix also announced Sonic Prime Dash for the subscription service for Netflix gaming, which is a Prime version of the Sonic Dash mobile title.
- Sonic Central 2023 then announced Sonic himself would be added to the Samba de Amigo rhythm game. New tracks will also be made available, such as “City Escape” from Sonic Adventure 2. Samba de Amigo will launch on August 29.
- The Sonic Symphony World Tour will receive new locations and dates. Fans can head over to the Sonic Symphony’s official website for more information on how to attend!
- Tails Tube then came to the stream, announcing a second season for Sonic’s sidekick on YouTube.
- Then, new Sonic-flavoured merchandise was revealed. This includes Sonic Crocs and a collaboration with streetwear brand Hypland. An igloo cooler featuring Green Hill Zone was also given the spotlight, and an S-fire statue featuring Sonic and Shadow was also revealed to fans. The Sonic merchandise store will reportedly open on June 26.
- A new IDW comic featuring Amy Rose was announced for Amy’s 30th anniversary. The cover revealed at Sonic Central 2023 is emblazoned with Metal Sonic and Amy Rose sporting her new duds featured in Sonic Origins Plus.
Sonic x LEGO at Sonic Central 2023
Sonic Central 2023 closed the show by giving fans a rundown of the previously announced Sonic x LEGO sets. A new Eggman mini-figure hacked the stream and announced himself, with the mini-figure breaking out into a rap musical number. The LEGO Sonic sets will become available on August 1st through the LEGO website. A competition of sorts was also announced, and the Eggman figure said if enough users use the #MakeLEGOSonicMoreEggman hashtag, the abomination pictured above might become a reality.
Lastly, a Sonic Superstars collaboration with LEGO was shown, featuring Eggman appearing as his LEGO mini-figure self in-game, and although LEGO Sonic was seen battling LEGO Eggman, Sonic was not confirmed for Superstars at this time.
