Hot off the heels of the bombastic finale of The Boys fifth and final season, Amazon Prime Video has shared a first look at the preuel series, Vought Rising.
Vought Rising takes a stroll back to 1950s New York City, chronicles the origins of Clara Vought, also known as Stormfront, and Soldier Boy (once again played by Jensen Ackles). That takes the form of a murder-mystery story, set in the early days of the villanious Vought International. If you’re familiar with The Boys, you’ll of course recognize Stormfront as one of the primary villains of Season 2.
The trailer definitely sports that same grimdark tone that The Boys is well known for, showing Soldier Boy suiting up for the first time in a rather retro looking cosutme, while also giving us glimpses of the psychiatrict hospital Sage Grove Center, where experiments were run to give people powers.
While Vought Rising is, of course, based on The Boys, this prequel series is actually a brand new creation, not based on any existing comic series. The Boys obviously made some fairly liberal changes to the source material, particularly in the series’ finale, so it’ll be interesting to see how Vought Rising might shift things even more. Intrestingly, in 2024 The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke said Vought Rising had been rejected four years ago, at the same time he pitched Amazon on Gen V. At the time, Amazon had turned down Vought Rising to “wait and see” how Gen V performed.
The cast of Vought Rising includes Mason Dye, Will Hochman, KiKi Layne, Jorden Myrie, Nicolo Pasetti, Elizabeth Posey, Ricky STaffieri, and Brian J. Smith.
Paull Grellong is the showrunner and executive producer, with a long list of other executive producers that includes Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Jason Netter, and more. Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios are producing.
Vought Rising is scheduled to premier sometime in 2027, exclusively on Prime Video. The Boys Season 5 is streaming now.
