The Teen Titans are going international, thanks to a new deal with streaming giant Netflix.

Netflix announced today that they have acquired the international rights for the upcoming Titans show, which includes its debut in Canada. The show was originally announced as an exclusive on DC Universe, the new streaming service from DC Entertainment. However, the streaming service is only available in the U.S. and China, which opened the door for Netflix as an international home for the upcoming show.

Along with the news, Netflix also revealed a new trailer that sheds more light onto the characters motivations and status quos heading into the show. Some of the most notable aspects of it include the revelation that the show takes place in Detroit and that Dick Grayson is a police detective.

Titans is the first show to come out of DC’s new streaming service but it is not the only one slated to release in the coming year. Joining it are live-action projects such as Doom Patrol, Stargirl and Swamp Thing, as well as Young Justice: Outsiders and Harley Quinn on the animated front. It is unclear whether Netflix will also acquire the rights for the rest of the DC Comics’ shows, or if Titans is a one-off.

The show was unveiled earlier this year and the shows inaugural trailer featured a noticeably dark and mature theme, complete with brutal violence and coarse language. The show is set to premiere on DC Universe on October 12th and the Netflix premiere date has not been confirmed officially.
