Ubisoft Is Making a Crypto 'Web3 Gaming Experience' With Immutable

Blockchain gaming firm, Immutable, has just announced a partnership with Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab to create a ‘Web3 Gaming Experience,’ pushing the developer further into crypto.

First off, a Web3 gaming experience is billed as an always-on, live and breathing universe that focuses on each individual’s point of view, and today, AAA game publisher Ubisoft and Blockchain gaming firm Immutable (based on Ethereum and other blockchain products) have announced a partnership that forays into this concept. Both companies are dedicated to building “a new gaming experience that will further unlock the potential of Web3,” which touts an offering of “digital ownership.” Below is the announcement from Immutable’s X (formerly Twitter) account.

Vice-President of Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab and Head of its Blockchain Initiative detailed that, “As the platform of choice for many leaders within the Web3 community, Immutable offers both cutting-edge technology and a unique expertise in seamlessly integrating decentralized technologies into games,” with “We’re excited to partner with them and look forward to bringing that level of fluidness within a full-fledged game, so players only have to focus on the fun of the experience” regarding the partnership.

Immutable CEO and Co-Founder James Ferguson echoed the sentiment, saying, “We plan to bring the full weight of our ecosystem to bear to ensure the partnership’s success,” including “We couldn’t be more excited to explore with Ubisoft the benefits of web3 and digital ownership for players.” While both companies are doling out lofty expectations and promises like “digital ownership,” nothing much else has been offered on what exactly both companies are working on together.

It’s worth mentioning that Cryptocurrency and NFTs, in general, have seen a big downswing since the crypto boom in 2017. Cryptocurrency exchanges like FTX have proven to be rife with fraud, as FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried is facing multiple convictions for fraud and using investor funds as a “personal piggy bank.” Other cryptocurrencies have also faced the long arm of justice, with SafeMoon founders “rug-pulling” their own funds after their coin launched, effectively stealing investor finances for personal gain.

That said, Immutable touts itself as “the leading platform for building web3 games on Ethereum”, and Ethereum is seemingly one of the only cryptocurrencies left that remains consistent despite a ruined crypto economy, with the currency soaring in value (over 6% according to Google Finance) after today’s announcement with Ubisoft, but still a far cry from the $4,600 a single coin cost on 12 November 2021.

More information on this partnership between Immutable and Ubisoft can be found in the Immutable statement on their website.
