Witcher 3 Gets Delay and Open Letter

Witcher 3 Gets Delay and Open Letter - 49059

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been delayed again. It has been pushed to May 19, 2015 and, according to an open letter from the Board of CD Projekt S.A., it’s so they can limit any bugs the game could have that would negatively affect the game.

The CD Projekt Group has shown recently that they are paying attention to what the gaming community is saying. The news of the delay has come on the tail end of the release of games like Assassin’s Creed: Unity and The Master Chief Collection, which launched with bugs that severely reduced the consumer experience.

In an interview with Polish journalists that has been translated by Eurogamer, CD Projekt board member Adam Kiciński talked about why the team at CD Projeky RED studios needs another 3 months.

“There’s a lot of small errors though, because the game is huge. It’s the only reason behind the delay. We didn’t assume it will be this big. Only after putting all the pieces together it turned out it’s bigger than the two first put together. Let me remind you: it’s open and not linear. We are just learning how to play it and we have to catch the little pieces. We know what to do, we just have to do it. We don’t want to release the game with bugs that undermine the gameplay.”

This comes after their last big announcement, which was that all of the planned DLC for The Witcher 3 would be free for everyone. In the last open letter from one of the companies founders, Marcin Iwiński, said that he wanted gamers to feel taken care of and not that the games DLC was a carrot on a string used to get more money from them or boost launch sales.

Even with the news that they’ll have to wait another 3 months for Wild Hunt to come out, many fans are applauding the actions taken by the CD Projekt Group. The company seems to be listening to players and taking action to make sure The Witcher 3 doesn’t follow in the footsteps of other titles that have left players upset or frustrated. Come May 19 we’ll see if their actions translate to a great game, and more importantly for the industry, sales that reflect their efforts.
