On top of The Witcher 3‘s next-gen update receiving a concrete release date, CD PROJEKT RED’s Q3 earnings summary detailed The Witcher Remake receiving an open world.
The cat — or wolf — is out of the bag on the major development for the upcoming project that has the gaming world riled up, and it involves CD PROJEKT RED’s most popular video game license The Witcher. Since the announcement of the remake’s existence in October, little has been detailed about the title’s direction. Still, the following photo from their Q3 2022 earnings summary says, “Story-driven, single player open-world RPG – a modern reimagining of 2007’s The Witcher“.
The Witcher Remake sets the table for the following two games in the series, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, which loosely follows the events of the novel and utilizes creative freedom to develop its story. As an added bonus, the earnings summary pulls the curtain back on the anticipated next-gen The Witcher 3 update, which launches officially on December 14.
Since 2007, there has been no way to play The Witcher besides on PCs, and with its initial remake announcement statement, CD PROJEKT RED revealed, “The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger,” said Adam Badowski, Head of Studio of CD PROJEKT RED, with “Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting, as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games.”
Another notable sentence in the announcement stated, “We, as CD PROJEKT RED, are providing full creative supervision,” regarding the relationship with Fool’s Theory on The Witcher Remake, so fans can rest assured it’s in good hands for the time being.
Upon further inspection, the Q3 summary also shows more resources being thrown at the upcoming previously teased Witcher project called ‘Polaris,’ and it increasing every month. But fans will just have to wait and see what’s next in this latest announcement regarding The Witcher Remake and the rest of the series as more information becomes available.
