Closing off the ceremony of gamescom ONL 2026, CD Projekt RED took to the stage to announce a massive update to their critically acclaimed The Witcher III: Wild Hunt.
The Witcher III: Wild Hunt Remastered will be a complete revamp of the original game, featuring updated visuals, enhanced combat systems, redesigned progression systems and more. But what makes this announcement even more exciting is that this complete overhaul will be free for anyone who previously purchased the game on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and Nintendo Switch—though the update will be slated for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The Witcher III: Wild Hunt Remastered will not only feature the base game, but both the game’s DLCs: “Hearts of Stone” and “Blood and Wine.” On top of this CDPR has been working on a third DLC for the game, titled “Songs of the Past.” Geoff Keighley brough CDPR Level Design Lead Miles Tost to talk a little about the update and the new addition. “You can tell that the team definitely poured their heart into this one,” he said, adding, “its a huge privilege for me to stand here and represent them!”
When asked about the decision to make a new expansion for an 11 year-old game, Tost responded with excitement, saying, “we had this idea for one more story with Geralt for a while, but we couldn’t quite figure out how to fit it into our busy schedules.” One of the things Tost was most excited about was the showcase of a new weapon for Geralt—a Kasumi Kama styled bladed chain—which fans of the series will know was the first weapon they showcased in The Witcher I intro.
Set in the brand new region of Letten, which appears as a peaceful forested area with many dark secrets and terrible creatures hiding under the surface. The Witcher III: Wild Hunt Remastered is set to release on September 29th, 2026, while “Songs of the Past” is scheduled for 2027.
