Rumor: Wonder Woman 2 filming in U.S. this June 1

Production for DC’s Wonder Woman 2 has reportedly been pushed to June and will take place in the U.S. instead of the U.K. in May, according to Omega Underground. The report states that the sequel to the highly acclaimed 2017 heroine film will be shot on location in Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia, indicating that Diana Prince may be making an appearance at our nation’s capital, Washington D.C.

This report lines up with a statement director Patty Jenkins made last year about the Wonder Woman sequel.

“The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right,” said Jenkins in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.”

While structures like The White House and The Capitol Building may act as a backdrop for some scenes involving Diana Prince interacting with the U.S. government, reports of filming in Virginia could point to the Amazonian warrior meeting up with the C.I.A. (headquarters for the real-world C.I.A. are in Virginia). While Wonder Woman fought alongside the Allies of WWI in the 2017 film, it is unclear whether she will be working with the U.S. government following the events of Justice League.

Last year’s Wonder Woman was a smash hit at the box office, grossing a total of $821.9 million worldwide ($412.6 million in the U.S. and Canada, $409.3 million in other territories) against $149 million in production costs. The film opened with ~$70 million in May of last year and was met with near-universal critical acclaim. Widely noted for its significance in empowering women in Hollywood and media, our own Boyd Reynolds has posited that the film will cause a rippling effect of success for the DCEU. The next film in the fictional universe, Justice League, however, was met with harsh criticism later that year; our own Phil Brown gave the film a 4/10, calling it an “absolute mess” in his review.
