On Tuesday, Nintendo revealed they have at least one more Wii U port left in the cannon for Nintendo Switch, and Xenoblade Chronicles X has been confirmed.
Nintendo has announced that yet another Wii U port is coming to the Nintendo Switch, and with Xenoblade Chronicles X landing on the console in 2025, the entire four-title Monolith Soft saga of Xenoblade Chronicles can be played on one platform. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is coming to Switch on March 20, 2025, and the Definitive Edition will bring enhanced visuals, added story elements, and other unannounced features to the original game. Nintendo has launched a brand new trailer to commemorate the port, and it can be seen below.
The trailer ends by teasing an allusion to the re-release’s expanded story. It features an alternate version of the post-credits scene from the original Xenoblade Chronicles X, in which Lao Huang wakes up on the beach and is greeted by a mysterious hooded figure, a change of pace from the original ending which simply states “This story truly never ends…”
CGMagazine’s review of Xenoblade Chronicles X called it “easily the best game on the Wii U” and said “This game doesn’t revolutionize the genre as the previous instalment did; rather, it improves on the formula they set out with” when comparing it to the original Xenoblade Chronicles title that launched on Wii (which is also available on the Switch).
The official Nintendo description of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition details the storyline as taking place right after the events of the first game. It reads “The year is 2054. Earth has been destroyed by an intergalactic war between two alien races, and humanity is on the brink of annihilation. A small number of survivors, aboard the USS White Whale, crash land on the vast and untamed planet Mira” and its up to the player as a member of BLADE to bring humanity back from potential annihilation.
The Definitive Edition launches on March 20, 2025, and fans can check out the official listing on the Nintendo website.
