The Aurzen D1R Air Roku TV Smart Projector is the first truly portable LCD Roku TV projector created. Designed to be compact and adaptable, this 1080p projection system comes equipped with 180° viewing, a 2 x 5W speaker system, built-in real-time auto focus and auto keystone. Powered by the Roku TV software experience, the D1R Air provides a solid and adaptable entertainment experience.
The design of the D1R Air is one of the more unique designs I’ve tested. While some projectors, such as the Yaber Projector T2 Plus, have included a dual-post swivel system, the Aurzen D1R Air is the first I’ve worked with that provides true 180° adjustment capabilities. The system provides exceptional adaptability, supporting front and rear projection setups with ease. While the base of the projector carries the same compact profile as the lamp, it feels well-balanced and not top-heavy at all.

The weight of the unit is fairly light for a projector, weighing in at 2.66lbs. That is relatively light considering that it houses not just the lamp but two 5W speakers and a swivel support system. Examining the back of the unit reveals a removable rubber cover that houses the system’s I/O and power button. A single 3.55 audio, HDMI, and USB port comprise all of the onboard I/O, allowing for flexible connection options.
There are no onboard navigation controls, though, so expect to manage the projector and Roku TV experience via the included Roku remote. This is a bit disappointing, as remotes are often forgotten or misplaced. However, thanks to Roku TV’s mobile remote, any smartphone can take its place. I recommend setting this up during the initial setup, saving you potential headaches down the road.

Along with the aforementioned I/O, the D1R Air also includes a single USB-C port and a standard 110V power cable port on the base of the unit. Both can be used for powering the device (USB-C requires a 65W+ power supply), with the former allowing for truly portable viewing. Using a powerbank with PD3.0 power delivery, the D1R Air can easily be set up in most compact spaces, no wall outlet required.
The overall design offers impressive flexibility in a compact form factor. While there are many compact projectors on the market, the D1R Air’s 180° capabilities are a standout feature that helps it rise above the competition. It’s exceptionally easy to use, providing smooth, effortless adjustments, and it feels sturdy when in use. From a design perspective, Aurzen has done an exceptional job with its implementation of the D1R Air’s design and construction.

Functionally, the D1R Air works as advertised. The native 1080p experience is crisp and clear when viewing and provides a minimum throw distance of 3.63ft at a 40-inch display and up to 13.62ft at a 150-inch display. The 200 ANSI lumens is plenty bright at night, though daytime viewing is quite dull, something to consider if placing it in a room with lots of windows. In the space I tested the unit, along with the bay windows in the front of the house and the kitchen window on the side (it’s an open living room, dining room, and kitchen space), I was still able to watch content on the D1R Air well enough during the day.
The standout feature here, though, is the time of flight (TOF) auto focus and auto keystone technology. With 180° of projection option available, I was slightly concerned about the delay in focus and keystone when making quick adjustments to the position of the projector. Thankfully, these concerns were unfounded as the D1R Air is incredibly quick at adjusting both on the fly. The result is that you can easily change the position of the projection for wall to ceiling or anything in between and be back in focus in under three seconds, all without the signal being interrupted. I am impressed with the system.
The speaker system, well functional, isn’t nearly as impressive, though. While the two 5W speakers do get the job done, and it’s nice to have on a sub $250 projector, it lacks any meaningful bass. I’d recommend connecting to Bluetooth speakers such as the Xiaomi Sound Outdoor Speaker, which provides a nice upgrade to the audio experience. With Bluetooth 5.2 onboard, connecting is simple and provides seamless, lag-free audio.

On the note of connection, the D1R Air also supports the latest Apple mirroring software and Android devices as well. As for the Roku TV experience, it’s smooth and functions as you would expect from Roku. Overall, the user experience is straightforward. If you have previously used Roku devices, you can pull over most of your app logins. Its simply to set up and works great.
The Aurzen D1R Air Roku TV Smart Projector is a great option for users looking for a budget-friendly 1080p projector experience. With built-in audio, 180° degrees of adjustment and impressive auto focus and auto keystone, there is a lot to love about the D1R Air. Throw in the Roku TV experience, and you have all the elements needed for a cost-effective home entertainment experience.
