Between work and play, the chair at your desk has become one of the most valued pieces of furniture in your house. Personally, I spend as much as double the amount of time in my desk chair as I do on my couch. From working at home to gaming to content creation, the comfort of my chair is the motivator to stay in it to get things done. When thinking in those terms, Hinomi’s newest chair, the Hinomi X1 Ergonomic Office Chair, is a great motivator not just to sit in your chair but to sit in it properly.
The Hinomi X1 Ergonomic Office Chair, like most office chairs, comes delivered with some assembly required. The assembly process was fairly simple, with a well-organized box of hardware. It was easy to understand where all the pieces went without any directions (don’t worry, it comes with directions) in a way that you aren’t going to mistake where anything goes. Therefore, you won’t have to worry about disassembling anything to fix what you did wrong.

The design of the Hinomi X1 Ergonomic Office Chair is unique to say the least, The back support of the chair is in three separate pieces to individually support specific parts of the spine, the cervical spine, thoracic spine and lumbar. Each piece is adjustable by height to really customize the chair to support your back correctly.
The middle and lower back supports are each in two pieces (four in all) to properly support you, depending on exactly how you sit. It is a great design. Does it lack the plush qualities of many chairs? Sure, but with the more firm support, particularly for the lumbar, it will never flatten like a cushioned back, providing you the same support on its last day as it did on its first.

The mesh back and the slotted plastic in the lumbar support make this chair incredibly breathable. It is ideal for long periods of sitting and will encourage you to actually sit back and let the Hinomi X1 Ergonomic Office Chair do its work, whereas more solid chairs would have their users lean forward on a hot day just to get some cooler air on their backs.

The armrests have a degree of adjustability I never thought I’d need. You can adjust the height, depth, width and rotation (up to 270 degrees), all fairly standard for modern office chairs, but they also have a vertical tilt adjustment that tilts the front of the arm up to 30 degrees, which gives your arms great support, especially when you’re sitting back in the chair, using your phone and getting used to the tilt, as activating it essentially unlocks the arm and causes it to spring up. It won’t hurt you or anything, but it will give you a start.
Tucked under the seat is a set of leg rests that fold out for a little extra comfort. They don’t stretch out enough to support anything beyond your calves, but it’s still definitely a nice way to sit. Then, when you are done, they fold back up and tuck away with no effort at all.
“The only thing close to a complaint that I have about the Hinomi X1 is the actual seat.”
The aluminum frame makes for a solid base on the Hinomi X1. I’ve tried a lot of mesh-backed office chairs in my day, and they are, more often than not, built to be cheaper chairs, using less material and selling only on that breathability factor. Hinomi’s better-built mesh backs attached to a much stronger frame teach you quickly what a chair of this type should feel. The five-wheel base glides well on a hard floor but needs a little more heave-ho on carpeting (easily fixed by an office chair mat at your desk.

The only thing close to a complaint that I have about the Hinomi X1 is the actual seat. It is not uncomfortable, nor is it poorly designed, but it is more firm than you may want it to be for real long-term sitting. It is fine for a work-from-home day, presuming you are getting up from time to time for breaks, but if you turn your office space into something else when you clock out, you may feel that you need a little more cushioning underneath you.
Given that the Hinomi X1 is marketed as an office chair, not a gaming chair, it is fair not to count this against them too much as, as I said, the chair will get you through a workday just fine, but it seems that it is worth knowing ahead of buying it.
The Hinomi X1 ergonomic office chair retails for $699 USD and comes in grey, black and pink. It also comes in three sizes. Small (for users between 5’1″ and 5’6″), Medium (for 5’6″ to 6’1″) and Large (for 5’9″ to 6’6″). I got mine in Medium, as I am at the lower end of the height spectrum. I may be a small king, but I am hoping for a growth spurt, even at the age of 42.

The Hinomi X1 is an expensive office chair, but it’s solidly built and comes with a long-term warranty of 12 years on the frame and wheelbase and 7 years on everything else, so you know it’s a safe, long-term investment that I have no problem recommending, as long as you don’t use it for more than office hours.
