Logitech G705 Wireless Gaming Mouse

Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

One of the key weapons I need before entering the FPS battlegrounds is my faithful mouse. I typically enjoy a mouse that is light as a feather, the skates glide smoothly but brake just where I need to, the DPI settings feels natural, and the shape of the mouse should be able to fit comfortably in the palm of my hand. The Logitech G705 Wireless Gaming Mouse almost checked off everything I needed to win every competitive gaming match—I could not win them all.

From Logitech’s Aurora collection, the G705 Wireless Gaming Mouse was made with the intention for users with smaller hands, comfort and an easy connectivity experience with its LIGHTSPEED technology. It was also built with a battery life said to last approximately 40 hours. It weighed in at about 85 grams (~0.19 lbs) with six fully programmable buttons. The LIGHTSYNC RGB was quite colourful, and the three lit up areas could be customized in the Logitech G Hub app.

Upon my initial reaction, the Aurora RGB lighting was spectacular. It turned on immediately with its pre-set “Logitech Immerse” lighting effects, which displayed the beautiful blues, greens, and reds like the Northern Lights displayed in the Canadian Banff winter skies. Strangely enough, the whole top of the mouse did not light up—only the bottom top part where my palm rested lit up. It almost looked as if they could have added this feature, but if I had to guess why they did not add more lighting contours, perhaps it was because they felt it would be distracting for the user.

All three connectivity options were seamless! This was a big plus for me as someone who could always be on-the-go at a moment’s notice. The G705 Wireless Gaming Mouse was able to connect perfectly with the LIGHTSPEED receiver and through Bluetooth. The cool part that many other big name peripheral companies like SteelSeries and Razer have been doing was making a receiver that could be used for two different devices. So, instead of having to plug in two receivers (one for the mouse and one for the keyboard), one receiver could sync both items.

“The G705 Wireless Gaming Mouse was able to connect perfectly with the LIGHTSPEED receiver and through Bluetooth.”

Where the G705 Wireless Gaming Mouse fell short a bit was with its focus on precision. The mouse was only able to store up to three different DPI quick settings. I was slightly surprised with this because most of the best gaming mice came with at least four DPI quick settings—to offer more options in quick fighting scenarios like doing a 360-degree turn faster in Call of Duty: Warzone. It also only had DPI settings between 100 to 8,200 DPI—meaning I could not get the full amount of accuracy per mouse drag as I would get from a mouse that went up to 16,000 DPI.

From a truly personal gripe with the G705 Wireless Gaming Mouse was with the shape of the mouse itself. I loved where the contoured lines lined up my thumb but I felt like the encompassing body was a little too small for me. I noticed how different the raised mouse body felt immediately in contrast to the wider area mice I was used to using. Another argument for the shape would be that it was evidently designed for right-handed users and not ambidextrous—pour one out for the left-handed users.

On the plus side of these critical aspects, the DPI settings felt easily transferable from my Razer Basilisk x Hyperspeed to the G705 Wireless Gaming Mouse. This was not to say they use the same calibration technologies but that the DPI settings felt and acted similarly. For the build of the G705, I thought the weight of it was near-perfect because it had the stopping power for me to lineup headshots in Valorant while still being able to flick onto the next enemy’s head smoothly.

While the Logitech G705 Wireless Gaming Mouse felt like a nice, airy dream, it also flew too close to the sun with its claims. For the most part, the $99.99 price tag would be appropriate. I could see all the intentions with each detail and understood the smaller size would be great for smaller hands.

Some minor adjustments and adding some more options would have been a great touch—for example, it could have a different colour scheme on the base colour like a peachy pink or a sky blue to still blend the Aurora effect. I would recommend the Logitech G705 Wireless Gaming Mouse for those looking for a reliable and quick access, wireless gaming mouse. If I were still in school and needed a mouse for both gaming and getting work done, I could trust this mouse to get me through my years.
