New Mass Effect book arriving in the fall

Mass Effect: Deception will be the fourth book in the rapidly expanding Mass Effect universe.

Remember books?  Those things made of paper that people used to read?  Well, Del Ray is publishing a new one called Mass Effect Deception, and it’s actually the fourth book set in Bioware’s Mass Effect universe. The new original story will be penned by William C. Dietz and follows Mass Effect: Revelation, Mass Effect: Ascension, and Mass Effect: Retribution.

Dietz replaces Drew Karpyshyn, the author of the last three books and lead writer for the Mass Effect games, although fans shouldn’t have anything to fear since Dietz also has plenty of experience when it comes to dealing with game licenses. Amongst other credits, he has previously written books based on the Hitman, Halo and Resistance franchises.

The story in Deception will follow Gillian Grayson, a character introduced in Mass Effect: Ascension. According to the press release:

“Gillian was once the subject of horrifying scientific experiments, but now, after her rescue, she is beginning to master her amazing powers. When she falls under the sway of a radical group who believe their powers make them superior to ordinary humans, she finds herself faced with a choice between her destiny…and her humanity.”

Sadly, Deception is not a choose your own adventure, even if that is what we’ve come to expect from Mass Effect. The new book is slated to be released sometime in the fall.
